Get ready to take up Haohmaru’s sword as he joins the Soul Calibur 6 cast at the end of this month, and perhaps prepare to see more of him when Soul Calibur 6 joins the mainstage during the (currently still scheduled) EVO 2020. Simply put, despite the transfer to 3D space, Haohmaru looks like he’s going to satisfy fans of his original Samurai Showdown style.

What’s more interesting is that we’ve seen Haohmaru’s Soul Calibur 6 gameplay showcase many of his trademark attacks, such as the Senpuu Retsu Zan tornado projectile and the Kogetsu Zan full moon uppercut. He joins Geese Howard and Akuma, who similarly transferred to 3D in Tekken 7. Haohmaru’s translation over to 3D fighting for the first time ever is interesting to say the least. The trailer ends with a launch date for Haohmaru in Soul Calibur 6 of March 31, 2020. We’ve gotten quite a few looks showcasing Haohmaru’s fighting style as it translates from the 2D (and recently 2.5D) space of Samurai Shodown over to the 3D arenas of the Soul Calibur franchise, but the latest look at Haohmaru shows off even more of his new tactics, including what looks like a heal from drinking out of his gourd following a throw and some very quick, stiff slashes to try to catch your opponent off guard. We finally have a date for when Haohmaru will be arriving in Soul Calibur 6 alongside a fresh new launch trailer.īandai Namco put out the launch trailer and date for Haohmaru in Soul Calibur 6 on the Bandai Namco YouTube channel on March 26, 2020. Thus, the lineage of Yoshimitsu and the Manji clan is canonically connected between the Tekken and Soulcalibur series of games. Yoshimitsu first appeared in an Soulcalibur game as a member of the original game’s roster in the form of an ancestral member of the Manji clan, seeing that Soulcalibur’s setting is quasi-historical. Yoshimitsu was first revealed in the original Tekken and it is learned in Tekken 2 that Yoshimitsu’s famous sword is passed down through members of the Manji Clan’s leaders. Yoshimitsu hasn’t appeared in a Soulcalibur game since the third entry and his presence in this one is genuinely surprising. His ability to juggle and keep opponents in mid-air combos is pretty prominent in the trailer, as well as a pretty awesome-looking grab move that allows the hilt of his sword to find a home in the face of his opponent.

Like all Soulcalibur characters, his weapons define him, and his move set seems unique in that his quickness plays directly into his swordplay, which resounds in an acrobatic flurry of sword and small-blade alike. SoulCalibur VI es la sexta entrega de la reputada saga de lucha y combate en tres dimensiones de Bandai Namco en la que, a modo de atractivo jugable, se usan armas como espadas, katanas, bastones y similares. His Manji Ninjutsu fighting style and Manji/Fu-Ma blades are on full display as he slices, counters and grapples his opponents into defeat.

Bandai Namco, since Soulcalibur VI’s initial announcement, has slowly been fleshing out the game’s playable roster via character-based trailers, and today’s trailer tosses the mechanical ninja Yoshimitsu into the fray.
